Rafael on Social Media, Coffee, London & Being an Intern at The Klokners Consulting

Rafael was my vert first intern. He joined me in November 2016 for half a year simply by writing me a message on Facebook. I was suspicious it his message was spam, but few messages proved me that he was a real person. Two weeks later, he became my intern, supporting me with my blog and content on how to build a personal brand on social media. He researched a number of articles and papers, learnt fast and prove to be a reliable candidate for a position in digital marketing.

This month he was asked to join a Brazilian company to manage their social media. Before we said goodbye, I asked him a couple of questions about how his internship went, his life in London, and how he likes his coffee.

Why did you sign up for the internship?

I love marketing and I always worked as a marketing analyst, however, it was the time for change and I wanted to work with what I liked more – digital marketing! So I started looking for an internship aiming to get some experience in this field that was new to me. Then my quest began, I started to send my CV and cover letter through Facebook messages. (Yes, Facebook messages, since I was looking for an opportunity in digital marketing, I thought it was a good idea.) After sending over 50 messages, I got one reply! This was the first time I spoke with Hana. She offered that I could be an intern and the rest is a history.

What did you get out of the internship?

From the six months I was working with Hana as an intern I learned a lot about digital marketing and social media. When I first started, I was not sure about what to expect and I was a bit nervous. The first thing I had to do was read an article about the power of you word and integrity. I have to say it was a really powerful document!

What’s next for you?

Currently I’m developing a digital marketing strategy for a company in Brazil and I’m the co-founder of the blog GoLearners where we teach English to Brazilian people. But, my goal is still to work in London with digital marketing, for sure this is my next step.

What are the top three things you like about living in London?

First of all, London is a multicultural city. The fact of having so many different people from all the world fascinate me. Another thing I love about it is the incredible the amount of pubs you can find in London, but to me is even more incredible the quantity old pubs you’re able to find. Pubs from the 15 century and still working in the same place. Finally, I am from Brazil and as a good Brazilian I am passionate about coffee. To me London is one of few places in the world you can find so many different coffee shops to enjoy a good cup of coffee.

How do you like your coffee?

There are two ways that I enjoy my coffee, I alway liked the famous americano. However, since I moved to London I began to drink flat white a lot. Tough decision between them.

What do you find interesting about social media?

Social media to me is the boom of the moment, it is a powerful tool that enables you to target your audience. It’s not about the quantity, it’s about the quality. Different from old medias, as with social media you can monitor your actions, see if your strategy works, refine it and get better results.

Thank you, Rafael, for doing such great work and all the best in your future endeavours!Â
